Educational Freedom

We don't want extremist, outside views shaping the education our kids receive. There is nothing harmful about reading about others' experiences or learning about our country's history.  There is a place for empathy, kindness, and diversity in our kids' schools.

See below for current legislation and scripts for calling your elected officials.

HB103, extremist rewrite of social studies curriculum

OH Republicans are pushing HB103 to fight the "culture wars" that are currently happening in education spaces. This bill would create a politically appointed Social Studies Standards Task Force - 9 members picked by the Governor, Senate President, Speaker of the House to create new state social studies standards for K-12 schools.

The proposed curriculum is "American Birthright," created by The Civics Alliance.  It pushes Christianity, elevates America/the West, and bans talk of social justice, current events and DEI. It teaches how colonization was a positive for those colonized.  The curriculum also goes against current Ohio educational standards and doesn't meet College Board's AP requiremtns.

This would completely strip schools/teachers/parents from making these decisions for their own schools and communities.  No other state has adopted these standards, and they were rejected in Colorado.

Tracy Richardson (R-86) and Don Jones (R-95) are the primary sponsors.

STAY TUNED - we are waiting for the hearing to be scheduled.  Citizens are able to submit testimony and this will be a good opportunity to reach out to your state rep.

SB83/HB151, damaging higher education

SB83 has already passed in the OH Senate, but it's companion bill HB151 is currently awaiting vote.

This damaging bill applies to public universities and would:

  • ban required DEI training and programs

  • ban groups, clubs based on race, sex, sexuality, gender

  • ban programs, policies, practices based on race, sex, sexuality, gender

  • restricts discussions about "controversial" topics

  • ban public statements and positions about "controversial" topics

  • ban employee strikes (faculty, staff, students)

  • cause a potential "brain drain" as faculty and students choose not to come or stay in Ohio

TAKE ACTION - call your state representative and ask them to vote NO on HB151.
