Gun Sense

We want expanded background checks, an assault weapons ban, and other gun sense laws to protect our shared community.  The best way to advocate for these are repeated calls to your elected officials, and when election time comes - electing more Democrats.

See below for current legislation and scripts for calling your elected officials.

Trying to pass AWB,
Background Checks

Introduced by Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-7), the discharge petition includes expanded background checks and an assault weapons ban.

A discharge petition is a way to bring a bill out of committee and to the floor for a vote without a report from the committee.  This gives more power to individual House members and takes away power (a small amount) from the committees.

218 (majority) votes are needed to pass.  Right now there are 204 who would most likely sign.  That means we need 214 more.

TAKE ACTION - Call your Congressman and tell them to sign the discharge petition.

SCRIPT - Hi, my name is [NAME] and I live in [CITY, ZIP].  I am asking Rep [REP NAME] to sign the discharge petition to bring HR698 to a vote.  Protecting my family and community from weapons of war is my #1 issue and I will vote accordingly.  Thank you.
